CPO Mendez sends the sixty-eight remaining trainees for the Spartan-II program on a new training mission in a snowcapped mountain range on Reach. He deposits each one separately with a piece of a map of the area. Under John's guidance, they rendezvous and identify extraction point they must head to. Upon arrival they take down the non-uniformed, hostile guards and steal the Pelican dropship waiting in the landing zone. Contacting the AI Deja, John manages to fly them all home. Upon return CPO Mendez makes John squad leader.
