Real World

1998

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

1998 was the second year of Halo's development.

Events[edit]

Circa 1998[edit]

  • Halo changed its code-name to "Blam!" because project lead Jason Jones could not bring himself to tell his mother he was working on a game called "Monkey Nuts."[1]
  • Bungie realized that the real-time strategy perspective was not ideal for the large-scale vehicle combat they envisioned, and began transitioning Halo into a third-person action game.[2]

March[edit]

March 13

  • blam.org and blam.net were registered by Bungie.[3]

Late 1998[edit]

  • The development team focused heavily on the Blam! Engine, specifically working on rendering massive outdoor environments with unprecedented draw distances and implementing physics for vehicles, which were key to the new third-person gameplay.[4]
