"Once we were warriors, forged and formed for the singular purpose of delivering death to humanity. Now we are known to many as "refugees" and "asylum seekers." But that does not encompass all that we are. Free from the Covenant, we now do many things. We cook, we craft, some are creating their own literature. Many attend the services of the Father here to better understand your species and this world. We do not expect forgiveness. But our lives are dedicated now to productive service and penitence."
— Peter reflecting on his past and current situation

Peter is a Sangheili asylum seeker residing in Sekibo District, Rio de Janeiro on Earth. He is the owner of the restaurant Rio Keep, and a former member of the Covenant.[1]

Biography[edit]

Before he had taken on the name of Peter, this Sangheili was attached to the Day of Jubilation, one of the two Syfon-pattern assault carriers in Prophet of Regret's Fleet of Sacred Consecration in October 2552. When the ship was destroyed by a Chershi-pattern antimatter charge, this Sangheili escaped and made landfall on Earth. Although the Sangheili and his comrades planned to regroup, they were seemingly stranded when the Prophet of Regret escaped during the Battle of Mombasa. Shortly after, the large support and excavation fleet of Jiralhanae-led Covenant reinforcements arrived at Earth; however, since the Jiralhanae were given orders to execute all Sangheili, those who revealed themselves to the Jiralhanae were killed. This Sangheili gave up his affiliation with the Covenant; he and his comrades retreated and hid, but were discovered by the UNSC a few days later. Having surrendered, he advised his fellow Covenant troops to comply to UNSC interrogation. Afterwards, they remained on Earth as asylum seekers that stayed after the end of the Human-Covenant War.[1]

At some point, this Sangheili was converted to Catholicism by Father Gustavo Barbosa, and took on the name "Peter", presumably after Saint Peter. Peter also founded a restaurant Rio Keep, which served both human and Sangheili cuisine. Around 2558, Rio Keep was visited by renowned chef and food critic Arturo Bustamante, who learned of Peter's history and later transcribed Peter's account to his biographical book Rendezvous with Ramen. The chapter that featured Peter was later flagged by the Office of Naval Intelligence for a material audit.[1]
