History[edit]
Rise of humanity[edit]
Rio de Janeiro's history stretches back to the 1500s.[2]
Postwar[edit]
By 2558, there were approximately 1500 Covenant asylum seekers living in the city.[2] At some point in late 2557 or early 2558, Spartan branch fireteam Majestic, minus Gabriel Thorne, was deployed to the city to maintain order there.[1]
In early 2558, as protest against John-117's return in 2557,[2] a Sangheili terrorist attempted to detonate a contraband HAVOK nuclear warhead in the city, but was ultimately stopped by UNSC special operations forces.[1]
While penning his biography Rendezvous with Ramen, Arturo Bustamante visited Rio in 2558, a few months after the thwarted terrorist attack; in his book, Bustamante stated he considered writing a book solely on the cuisine and restaurants in Rio.[2]
Society[edit]
Culture[edit]
Festivals took place in Rio. The dominant religion in the city is Roman Catholicism. The feijoada was a dish local to Rio. The Sangheili who have come to live in the city have made their own version of feijoada with Subanese spices and colo.[2]
