M4 field disk
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
The M4 field disk is a memory chip are used by helmet recorders to store visual and audio files created by the recorder's video and audio sensors.[1][2] They can be plugged into nearly any information terminal or display unit that can play optical and audio data. These chips are compatible with the data crystal chip port on the MJOLNIR Mark V helmet,[3] allowing the wearer to watch the recording via a window on the heads-up display.[2]
Usage[edit]
During the Battle of Sigma Octanus IV, the Spartan-IIs employed these, and John-117's recorder chip contained the record of his mission to Côte d'Azur, as well as intelligence on Covenant, Huragok and Mgalekgolo.[4] This was much appreciated by HIGHCOM.[5]
Private Wallace Jenkins' helmet was equipped with helmet recorder and a field desk, and John-117 used a playback system in his helmet to view the squad's progress as he tried to find Captain Keyes. It was using this chip's recording that he first saw the Flood.[2] The recording was later saved in a report John-117 had made.[6]
Production notes[edit]
The chip has the text "DO NOT EAT" printed on its surface.[7]
