The Brute Chieftain is a leader available to play as in the multiplayer of Halo Wars.
Universe and lore[edit]
- Main article: Avitus
Avitus, the Thrallslayer, is a Jiralhanae Chieftain who, at the time of Halo Wars, serves in the Covenant. He later appears in the Terminals of Halo 2: Anniversary, where he can be seen slaughtering the High Councilors in the Great Schism, and later joins the Banished.
Gameplay[edit]
Campaign[edit]
The Chieftain is the only Covenant leader to not appear at any point during the campaign of Halo Wars.
Multiplayer[edit]
The Brute Chieftain appears exclusively in Halo Wars skirmish multiplayer.
Unique units[edit]
As with all Covenant leaders, the Chieftain is able to personally deploy to the battlefield as a Hero unit armed with a gravity hammer and unique abilities. The Chieftain is automatically spawned upon building a Temple for the first time, though once killed can be re-purchased for
400.
Aside from this, the Chieftain has two wholly unique units. The first is the Chopper, a scout vehicle which replaces the Ghost. Unlike the Ghost the Chopper does not start with any weapons, but it does have more health. The Chieftain also has the ability to deploy Brutes armed with brute shots and jump packs. Finally, the Chieftain is able to use a unique variant of the Grunt Squad with a brute shot-armed Brute replacing the Elite officer leading the squad.
Together, these units make the Chieftain a formidable early-game presence with the ability to easily blunt early rushes and go on the offensive.
