Flaming plants on Reunion

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

The flaming plants on Reunion are an Easter egg in the Halo 5: Guardians campaign mission Reunion. This Easter egg is only available when playing the mission on Legendary difficulty. If activated and performed correctly, the player will receive the Whiplash Railgun and High Five Rocket Launcher with unlimited ammo.

Walkthrough[edit]

During the second half of the mission, Blue Team must navigate through the caverns that eventually leads to the valley where the Warden Eternal is fought. There are five plants that must be shot in the order listed below, and shooting them will set them on fire. If the plants are shot in the incorrect order, the player has to restart the mission from the beginning or reload to a prior checkpoint.

  1. The first one is located in the same area where the Forerunner Record: Search 4/5 Mission Intel is found. Upon starting the second half of the mission, proceed normally until you reach the first breakable wall on the left. Destroy this wall and then proceed forward until you see a spiral-like room to the right. The plant is located on a ledge above the walkway which cannot be reached by normal means, so it must be shot at with any ranged weapon.
  2. The second plant can be found in an opening to the right of the tunnel situated to the left of the chasm where the first Armiger Sniper spawns. This plant is reachable within melee range of the player and thus can be hit with a melee attack.
  3. The third plant is located just below and ahead of the ledge where the first Armiger Sniper spawns, sitting above and to the right of a pair of Forerunner weapon racks. It can be found immediately after shooting the second plant. As with the previous plant, this plant is reachable within melee range of the player.
  4. The fourth plant is placed on the cavern walls ahead of the previous two plants, just right before the canyon containing the Forerunner Record: Search 2/5 Mission Intel.
  5. The fifth and final plant is located below the upper ledge on the left side of the valley where the Warden Eternal appears.

If executed correctly, the Grunt Birthday Party sound effect will be heard and the player's weapons will immediately be replaced with the Whiplash and High Five, both of which have unlimited ammo by way of bottomless clip being enabled. Even though their reserve ammo counters will eventually go down to zero, that is only cosmetic as the bottomless clip stops them from truly running out of ammo. Any grenades the player had at hand will also be removed and replaced with two frag grenades, although they can still pick up other grenades as usual. Moreover, if the player's shields are completely down upon shooting the fifth and final plant, such as with the Black Eye skull on, the player will be instantly restored to full shields and health as soon as the Whiplash and High Five are given to the player. The Whiplash and High Five will prove highly useful for the rest of the mission, especially during the boss battle against the Warden Eternal and his minions. Furthermore, these weapons will also help in unlocking the "Take a Hike" achievement, which requires Blue Team to cross the canyon towards the end of the level without using Phaetons. On the other hand, once the player clears out the last group of enemies and takes the man cannon leading out of the caves, the Whiplash and High Five permanently lose their bottomless clip property, allowing their ammo to be fully depleted at this point.

Trivia[edit]

  • This Easter egg is conceptually similar to the Flaming knives on Osiris Easter egg featured in the first mission, although unlike the latter, it does not modify any existing weapon racks to spawn only weapons from a specific faction.
  • This is one of two Easter eggs that allows the player to obtain the High Five in any campaign mission, with the other being the UNSC weapons on The Breaking.
