Bulletin board
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
The bulletin board is an environmental prop found on The Pillar of Autumn, the first level of Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. It is also included in the remade iteration of the level featured in Halo: Campaign Evolved.
The bulletin board can be found in three locations throughout the ship: one adjacent to the bridge's entrance, another more in the mess hall, and the last behind a pillar in one of the ship's corridors. It is a digital display (possibly a Luminateboard) with the options "File, Edit, Object, Window, Help" in the display.
Overview[edit]
Halo: Combat Evolved[edit]
The bulletin board has seven messages on it, comprising of some in-universe notes, some Easter eggs, and other references.
There are actually more bulletin boards on the Pillar of Autumn, one being found on the mission, The Maw, where there is a shattered board right through the cafeteria alongside two medical packs and an empty shotgun, but the first is the only one with legible messages.
The board contents include the following notes, presented as paper printouts pinned to a physical board.

| This note includes several nods to Bungie and its history. The Chicago office references Bungie's original studio before being bought by Microsoft and moving to Seattle; Colony Ship is a reference to an infamous level in Marathon, and Integrity is likely a snide jab at how Bungie's staff felt about "selling out" to Microsoft. | |
| The term "Keep It Clean" was later reused as a tagline for the Superintendent in Halo 3: ODST and its marketing. | |
| Jonesy, the ship's cat, is one of many references to the Alien film series. | |
| Likely a reference to the musical, South Pacific | |
| A propaganda poster. |
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary[edit]
The bulletin board was remastered in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary to feature new messages and Easter eggs.

|---|---|
| The image and name "Dark Planetoid Rising" reference Requiem from the then-upcoming Halo 4 and a 2008 NeoGAF meme. A trollface can be seen in the bottom-left. | |
| Fist of the Unicorn, and unicorns more generally, are a common 343 Industries in-joke. | |
| The image of the goose has a golden egg. It is unclear whether this is a reference to Martin O'Donnell, who often referred to Bungie as "Microsoft's Golden Goose", with the Halo series as the "Golden Eggs". If so, the poster may reference Bungie's departure from Microsoft. | |
| A reference to the "lost cat" poster in the original game. The attached photos are of an opossum from an an Internet meme. | |
| A propaganda poster from the Defiant Map Pack, released the same year as Anniversary. | |
| VTARS may stand for something akin to verification test and analysis reports. FRANCH INSPECTOR is an internal 343 Industries reference, followed up with Franchbot Industries in Halo 2: Anniversary. |
Halo: Campaign Evolved[edit]
The bulletin board is featured in Halo: Campaign Evolved in the same locations as the original. It is an almost exact recreation of the original Combat Evolved board, but with higher texture resolution allowing more details to be read. It bears the UNSC Data Administration logo in the bottom right.
