Template:Ship The UNSC Atlas was a carrier commissioned into the UNSC Navy prior to the beginning of the Human-Covenant War in 2525.
Operational history
Lambda Serpentis
On April 2525, the vessel went on patrol in the Lambda Serpentis system. Unknown to most of the crew, SPARTAN-II's were onboard the Atlas to recover from their augmentations and bury their dead in the microgravity atmosphere.[1]
Common throughout most ships in the fleet, the Atlas had a detachment of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers from the 105th division.[2] A situation was orchestrated aboard the ship to test a Spartan against then Second Lieutenant Antonio Silva's marines.[3] One morning, in the ship's gymnasium, an argument between a young John-117 and four marines was caused by John accidentally almost crushing a Helljumper's foot with weights. It left two of the ODSTs dead and the other two severely wounded. It damaged the relationship and triggered off the intense rivalry between Spartans and the Helljumpers for nearly three decades.[4]
Trivia
It is named after the titan Atlas in Greek mythology, who held the sky on his back as punishment for rebelling against the gods.
