"The Halo universe is so rich and complex. I found the Forerunners captivating, and really enjoyed writing them. I loved being able to focus in on some characters that people already knew, and answering the question, 'so what happened after that?'"
— Christie Golden[1]

Promises to Keep is one of several short stories in Halo: Fractures: Extraordinary Tales from the Halo Canon. Written by Christie Golden, the story takes place in the closing days of known Forerunner history following the events of Greg Bear's The Forerunner Saga,[1] as a group of surviving Forerunners embark on a perilous journey to the devastated capital world of the ecumene in order to restore the Domain. Due to the revelation of Splendid-Dust-of-Ancient-Suns being 000 Tragic Solitude, it has narrative connections to Halo: Hunters in the Dark.
