Galileo II is the intended designation for a new permanent UNSC research base. After the loss of Galileo Base during the Requiem Campaign, the UNSC Infinity was tasked on a survey mission to scout possible sites suitable for establishing the successor facility. Following an attack on the colony of Oban, Dr. Henry Glassman was to lead a survey team with a security escort to a possible site. While on course to the potential location, Infinity became trapped in the Aktis system when its slipspace coordinates were jammed by Catherine Halsey.[1][2]
