A File is the smallest infantry unit within the Covenant army. The group appears to be made up of around four to five Grunts[1] or Jackals.[2] A File is commanded by a Major Grunt, a Major Jackal, a Minor Elite, or a Minor Brute. A File is the Covenant equivalent to a UNSC squad. A Lance is the unit above a File. In Halo Wars, this group is called the Grunt Squad, and is made up of four Grunts and an Elite or Brute if the Hero Unit is the Brute Army Commander.
Tactics
- Simply use a grenade or rocket on the middle of the group if crowded together. This tactic is useful in the beginning of The Storm, when the group of Grunts and Jackals are grouped together, watching Truth's sermon.
