Ledge below small Sniper Tower
Below the small Sniper perch at the smaller sniper tower there is a small strip of ledge below which can be stood on, only really useful with an oddball because other than to hide it offers no strategic value whatsoever. To get down there jump up onto the small wall which runs around the edge of the platforms by the teleporter exit or the Sniper spawn platform and run and jump down there whilst aiming for the middle section of the two raised diagonal sections. Hold forward when you land otherwise you fall into an automatic death zone. If you walk upwards you will die, if you walk downwards you will die so you are stuck in this small area. It offers more cover than it does at first seem because the only place you can be shot from is the Sniper respawn platform. So if you crouch and walk into one of the raised diagonal platforms alongside you are almost totally covered.

Counter: Using a Sniper Rifle from the sniper respawn platform mentioned above is the easiest way, but any weapon from there will certainly kill with time.

Ledge underneath Banshee platform
Another great place for oddball carriers to wait is on the small support beam underneath where the Banshee spawns. To get there requires some practice but once you have done it a few times it will become second nature. Stand on the overshield walkway facing the Banshee platform. Jump on the small wall on the left of the walkway and run all the way along to the last little light thing on the side of the walkway. The ramp you are aiming for is to your left. Take a few steps back and the run and crouch jump towards the top of the ramp being careful to not bounce off the other side. From here run down the ramp but stop a couple of feet before the ramp levels out or else you will hit a death point. From here you are virtually unkillable as the only place you can be shot from is directly above you from the overshield walkway. If you are in a team game just get your fellow teammates to guard this area and then you are most of the time guaranteed a win!

Below the ramp up to the main tower
There is a small incline right at the bottom of the level. If you go along the overshield path from the Banshee, just before you enter the main tower, look to your right. You will see a small ledge, and way below that another smaller ledge. Try to stay as close to the wall as possible when jumping down, sliding down the ledge when you land will mean instant death.

Counter: It can be countered by standing where you jump from or from the main tower sniper spawn and sniping/rocketing whoever is down there.

Ledge by Main Tower
Go into the main tower from the main ramp, then turn left. There will be a steep curve 180 degrees round, bounded by a high-ish wall. On the other side of this wall is a small ledge. Jump over the wall, drop onto the ledge, and you have a great Sniper spot that can cover everything from the small sniper tower to the Banshee platform. You can also reach this ledge by jumping up to it from the overshield walkway.

Counter: Counter by sniping or by dropping in behind and assassinating.

In the Back of the Main Tower
This requires the Banshee.  One player flies the Banshee to the back of the main sniper tower, a little below the back level.  This player should see a column extending down, and a crevice behind this column.  If this player flies the Banshee straight into the wall and continues to thrust (essentially not moving, staying flush against the wall), another player can jump over the wall in the back of the tower, land on the Banshee and crawl into the crevice. Especially useful if you have the oddball.

Counter: It really can't be countered without the other team jumping to suicide and throwing grenades (or shooting a rocket or lucky Sniper shot) as they fall. Unless of course they get the Banshee and pull the same trick. There is one more way that this can be countered. Should grenade or rockets go off on the floor above the hole where you are, the hidden ledge, the damage can affect you even through the floor. However, this can be remedied if you stand a little back from what would be their floor, or if you are on the hidden ledge, your ceiling.

"Carney Hole" is the name given to special spots in Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo: Reach multiplayer levels that would give the player a huge tactical advantage over other players. Each was designed by Bungie employee, Chris Carney.

Carney Holes are included in many of the multiplayer levels. Some are hard to find, while others are wide out in the open. Some will contain weapons, a good view of the battlefield (and thus a good place to snipe), or just a very good place to defend.
