Green Hills, along with Second Base, was one of two human colonies to be glassed by the Covenant almost immediately after Harvest in the Human-Covenant War. Initially, the UNSC had hoped to cover up their loss by explaining it away as a communications blackout caused by Insurrectionists. Eventually, they were forced to reveal that the UNSC was now at war with a xenocidal alien hegemony, and that this and a number of other colonies had been destroyed along with the total loss of two million civilians between them.[1]
