CAA Skidbladnir was a Phoenix-class colony ship operated by the Colonial Administration Authority used to colonize the human Outer Colony planet of Harvest. Its shipboard artificial intelligence was Loki.[1][4]
History[edit]
Once the initial colony on Harvest was established in 2468,[2] Skidbladnir remained in orbit for more than a year to assist in the construction of the basic infrastructure for the colony. Once the task was completed, the colony ship landed on the planet's surface and was scrapped for materials. Skidbladnir's power plant and engine were then used to power the capital city of Utgard, despite the CAA's concerns over the engine's capabilities.[1]
After UNSC Skidbladnir was scrapped, Loki was converted into Mack, the smart AI in charge of agriculture on Harvest.[1]
Production notes[edit]
In several early sources, notable the Halo Wars launch timeline[2] and the 2009 Halo Encyclopedia,[4][5] the ship is erroneously referred to as "UNSC Skidbladnir" with the UNSC's hull prefix. However, as noted in Halo: Contact Harvest, the ship and the nascent Harvest colony were operated by the Colonial Authority.[1] As such, the ship's prefix should be CAA, as observed with other colony ships such as CAA First Reverie. The UNSC, as a military organisation not yet active in the Outer Colonies at the time of Harvest's colonisation, would have little to do with the operation of such a ship. As such, this page intentionally ignores the UNSC hull prefix in favour of that implied by the original text.
Trivia[edit]
In Norse mythology, Skidbladnir was the ship ordered built by Loki and subsequently given to Freyr as part of Loki's recompense for stealing Sif's golden hair. The ship was big enough to fit all gods and yet small enough to fit in a pocket.
