Naliligaw is a Mgalekgolo who was in service to Jul 'Mdama's Covenant.

Biography[edit]

Naliligaw was one of many to be brought to the shield world Genesis from being caught in a slipspace bubble opened by a Guardian. It had to hide from Promethean forces that were previously allied with Jul 'Mdama's Covenant but were now under control of Cortana's Created—all under the corrosive atmosphere of the installation's coral highlands.[1]

By October 28, 2558, Naliligaw was collected and imprisoned by 031 Exuberant Witness, monitor of the shield world, to prevent further fighting and death between those stranded and Prometheans. It was cut off from its bond brother.[1] The Mgalekgolo tried to break the shield wall of its cell with its head, arms, and fuel rod cannon when Fireteam Osiris made their way towards the Cryptum holding Blue Team.[2]

Later that day, Naliligaw was released from its prison unit alongside some Unggoy at the request of Sangheili warrior Dham 'Mashatt. The Hunter introduced itself to this small Covenant group with the help of a Grunt as translator. When 'Mashatt gave a choice between returning home or remaining on Genesis to serve 031 Exuberant Witness by helping others stranded like them return home, Naliligaw was the first to step forward, as a "true guardian" of Genesis.[1]

Production notes[edit]

In a similar vein to the Mgalekgolo bosses featured in Halo 5: Guardians's Warzone Firefight game mode, Naliligaw is taken from a Tagalog word. Stressing the last syllable of the root word ligaw, naliligaw means "to be lost" or even "to be astray".[3] This can describe the spirit of this group of Covenant before Dham 'Mashatt presented a purpose that both served the Forerunners and brought forth peace or can generally describe how the Hunter feels after being separated from its bond brother.
