Malakost tracker

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

A Malakost tracker is a device of Covenant or Sangheili origin designed to be planted on an enemy spacecraft so that it can be tracked. They are similar in operation to Covenant relay mites, though unlike relay mites they do not appear to have any ability to manouevre and self-seek a target. They can be manually applied to an enemy craft, at which point they tenaciously cling to the exterior hull, able to withstand great amounts of punishment, including atmospheric reentry.[1] The United Nations Space Command operate a similar device known as a telemetry probe.

On September 1, 2558, in the midst of a battle over Carrow, the Sangheili fleetmaster Rojka 'Kasaan tossed a malakost tracker onto the hull of the Class-5 Bumblebee escape pod, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot One. The three SPARTAN-IIs of Gray Team were in the process of escaping from his Varric-pattern heavy cruiser, Unwavering Discipline.[1] The signal Rojka received from the tracker told him that the humans looked to be steering for the city of Suraka as they descended.[2] The tracker failed when the pod violently crashed into the ground.[3]
