Gabriel was a private contractor in research and development who worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence's Watershed Division.[3]
Biography[edit]
Human-Covenant War[edit]
Gabriel worked as a contractor in research and development for the Office of Naval Intelligence's Watershed Division, although he wasn't an ONI agent.[3]
In 2550, during the Battle of Ballast, Gabriel's son Darren and his unit were sent by a captain on a suicide mission against the Covenant. Rather than sending in a rescue, the captain abandoned Darren and his unit to die and covered it all up. However, the mission was a poor decision on the captain's part in the first place, so when everything went wrong, the captain doomed Darren and his unit in order to preserve his own reputation.[2]
In late 2552, Gabriel finally learned the truth about his son's death and wanted revenge, but the captain was an integral part of Operation: RED FLAG, so Gabriel left him alone as what the man was doing was potentially important.[2] Gabriel was assigned to help out with Operation: RED FLAG[3] as part of an experimental weapons detachment. Gabriel's team were aboard the UNSC Pillar of Autumn prepping for departure when the Fall of Reach happened.[4]
Exacting revenge[edit]
After the Fall of Reach, seeing no reason to hold back anymore, a seething Gabriel confronted the captain responsible for Darren's death. The man still wouldn't admit any fault, dismissing the deaths of Darren and his unit as the casualties of war and claiming that Gabriel couldn't appreciate the decisions he had to make. The argument got more and more heated until Gabriel stabbed the captain in the throat, killing him and avenging his son. Gabriel was imprisoned for the murder, but had no regrets.[2]

Death[edit]
Trapped by the Flood in the Forerunner tomb, the group bought time for Seelior 'Andolee to program a translocation pad to take them as close as possible to the Pillar of Autumn's crash site. However, in the process, Gabriel was severely injured when his forearm was nearly severed ten centimeters below the elbow by an infected Jiralhanae's Jovokada Workshop spike grenade. 'Andolee determined that the pad could only send one person at a time and needed the hand of a Reclaimer to activate each transport. Gabriel volunteered to be the one to stay behind, having Andrea sever his arm completely in the hopes that Gabriel's severed hand would be enough to trigger transport for himself. Charlie injected Gabriel with all of their remaining painkillers, Sandy gave him her last grenade, Andrea gave Gabriel a spare magazine for his assault rifle and Paxton gave him her M6D magnum. Gabriel rejected the offer of Charlie's rifle and looked at the boy strangely, tilting his head and smiling, possibly because Charlie reminded him of Darren.[1]
As the Flood started to break through a collapsed celling, Gabriel teleported his companions to safety. Gabriel started to follow them, but by that time he had been mutated into a Flood attacker form, triggering a failsafe in the ring's teleportation grid, causing both pads to short out and Gabriel to explode mid-transport.[1]
