Gabby Collins was a combat medic in the United Nations Space Command.[3]
Biography[edit]
Early life[edit]
Gabby lived in New Alexandria on Reach with her son Charlie.[1] Charlie's father died in a stupid accident when Cairo Station was being built above Earth and Charlie never knew him. Sometimes Gabby sat and drank in their apartment, crying softly when she thought Charlie couldn't hear her and likely thinking of her dead husband.[3]
Fall of Reach[edit]
When Reach fell to the Covenant, Gabby was stationed on the UNSC Pillar of Autumn. She managed to smuggle Charlie aboard as a stowaway.[3]
Battle of Installation 04[edit]
- Main article: Battle of Installation 04
When the Pillar of Autumn arrived in the Soell system, it was attacked by the Fleet of Particular Justice and Gabby treated the injured, getting covered in blood in the process. With Captain Jacob Keyes about to give the order to abandon ship, Gabby escorted her son to a lifeboat. The one that they found was filled with prisoners who had been released from the ship's brig by the guards rather than being left to die. Gabby pleaded with the group to take Charlie and Private Sandy Amor agreed. Gabby stayed behind to continue helping the injured, promising to see her son on Installation 04's surface.[3]
Gabby survived the next few days on Halo and was aboard a Pelican near the wreckage of the Pillar of Autumn, performing search and rescue amidst the three-way battle between the UNSC survivors, the Covenant and the Flood. Gabby spotted her son, Sandy, Andrea Green, Paxton and Seelior 'Andolee about to be overrun by the Flood and brought the Pelican to their rescue, strafing and bombing the Flood attackers and finally reuniting with Charlie. Charlie and Paxton stopped the Marines with Gabby from killing 'Andolee and Gabby explained that Alpha Base had been evacuated, and the survivors were making a stand at the crash site, but they were scattered all across the plain and the Flood was everywhere.[4]
Andrea received a message from Cortana on her military-grade neural lace -- deactivated until she suffered a serious head wound -- revealing that the AI and the Master Chief were intending to detonate the Autumn's fusion drive to stop the activation of Halo and asking for as much distraction and covering fire as possible. As Andrea passed along the message, Gabby and Charlie did their best to treat the wound. The group agreed to do their best to help create the distraction that Cortana asked for before doing their best to escape in the Pelican after fighting off another horde of Flood. However, the Covenant shot down the dropship and the survivors fled to a nearby Forerunner structure and fired on the Covenant forces as the Master Chief flew in on a Banshee. Gabby was buried in rubble during an explosion, but Sandy and Charlie dug her out.[5][6]
Death[edit]
As the Autumn began to self-destruct, 'Andolee realized that the building they were sheltering against contained a translocation pad.[6] As the Flood closed in on them, Andrea sacrificed herself to buy the others time to get inside. While Paxton and Sandy held off the Flood, 'Andolee guided Gabby through operating the pad as a Reclaimer, using the ring's teleportation grid to send Charlie to safety.[7] Paxton was splashed in the face by plasma or molten metal, and it was eating into her skull. As Sandy took the carbine from Paxton, Gabby went to help the fallen Marine, but Paxton knew what was happening and gave her helmet to 'Andolee. As the Flood broke in, the three humans and 'Andolee fought. Sandy fought until the end to buy Gabby time to reach the controls. When 'Andolee looked back before Gabby sent him through, she was looking into the transporter arch for Charlie. Gabby chose to send 'Andolee to her son rather than coming through herself, telling him to go with her last words. With Paxton terribly wounded and burned and Sandy doomed and subsumed beneath the Flood, there was no one left to send Gabby through. She was either killed by the Flood or when the Pillar of Autumn detonated moments later.[2]
Charlie and 'Andolee reappeared on the far side of the ring where there were no Covenant or Flood, and which maintained atmosphere even after Halo was shattered by the cruiser's detonation. 'Andolee informed the boy of the death of his friends and mother.[2]
