The 86th Shock Troops Battalion are a battalion of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. In December 2559, an understrength "slimmed down" 86th were assigned as part of the complement of UNSC Infinity for its deployment to Installation 07. However, the supercarrier was ambushed and destroyed by the Banished, killing many of its crew and forcing the survivors to abandon ship onto the ringworld for survival. During the fighting, members of the 86th deployed in their drop pods onto the Halo, and went on to become a core part of the UNSC guerilla force operating on the ring.[2]
