The UNSC Halo 3 Base is a United Nations Space Command underground base in the surrounding area of Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya. It could be in Mt. Elgon due to existing cave networks and the reference in the countdown. The base is called outdated (In reference to the doors), as it was built for a 20th Century war. It was most likely used do to its strategically close proximity to the Ark. It is featured in the second campaign mission of Halo 3, Crow's Nest. It was commanded by Miranda Keyes. The Base was attacked by the Prophet of Truth shortly after John-117, Sergeant Johnson, The Arbiter, and the remnants of Johnson and Reynolds's Marine teams. It held off many enemies, including Drones, Jackals, Brutes, Grunts. Meanwhile, Hornets engaged Banshees and Phantoms in an intense air battle. Brutes trapped some Marines inside the Barracks and were using them as food for Drones. John and the Arbiter went into the barracks, killed the Brutes and their allies, and saved the remaining marines.

The base was boobytrapped with a nuclear weapon and several smaller chargers. The Covenant managed to disabled the nuclear weapon but John returned to the Operations room (where it was held), defeated the troops there, and activated the weapon. He escaped and the resulting explosion destroyed the base and all remaining Covenant.

The surviving Marines were trapped in the garage and had to escape (using Warthogs) through the highway to Voi, as the Brutes would soon be looking for survivors.
