The human fleet burns in orbit over Charum Hakkor after the final battle.

Charum Hakkor is a planet in a system of the same name that once served as the capital of the prehistoric human civilization and, by extension, the human-San 'Shyuum alliance.[1] It shares its system with Faun Hakkor, Ben Nauk, Sothra Hakkor and eleven other planets.[2]

History

Charum Hakkor once featured a wealth of Precursor architecture and structures, which inspired ancient humanity to make the planet the capital of their interstellar civilization.[3]

Prior to the Human-Forerunner War,[note 1] the Didact and the Librarian first met at Charum Hakkor.[1]

Several decades before the Charum Hakkor campaign, a high-ranking human scientist known as Yprin Yprikushma discovered the Primordial on a small planetoid near the edge of the galaxy, and decided to transport the creature to Charum Hakkor. Unbeknownst to her and most in the galaxy, the creature was, or claimed to be, the last surviving Precursor.[4]

Human-Forerunner War

For over five decades, Charum Hakkor was the site of the concluding battle of the Human-Forerunner War. Forthencho, the Lord of Admirals, commander of the last fleets of Charum Hakkor, managed to successfully resist the the Didact for the last three years of the war despite being overwhelmingly outnumbered. Forerunner forces eventually broke through, destroying the planet's defenses and made landfall upon the surface. The human forces of Charum Hakkor were pushed back to the Precursor ruin known as Citadel Charum where the Forerunners extracted their essences were by Composers after humanity was forced to capitulate. After Charum Hakkor fell, the last surviving human forces retreated to their last front where they made their final stand.[5]

Forerunner-Flood war

In 100,043 BCE, Charum Hakkor's biosphere was devastated, and its Precursor structures were annihilated, by the test-firing of Halo Installation 07;[6] this firing, ordered by Master Builder Faber, was the first time any of the Halos had been fired. Forty-three years later, the recently-awakened Didact and the Manipular Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting visited the planet to discover the widespread devastation on the planet, as well as the Primordial's empty cage.

Note

  1. ^ Although not specified in the novel, the Didact's and the Librarian's meeting is presumed to have occurred before the war, as they were already married during the conflict and Forerunners would not have been able to set foot on Charum Hakkor until the end of the war.
