Avery's thoughts when he figured out they were trying to use one on him were that he wasn't going to end up jerking around in a puddle of his own piss

A Humbler Stun Device as portrayed in the Halo Graphic Novel.
A Humbler wielded by an ODST.

The Humbler Stun Device is a silver colored, nonlethal electrical baton weapon used by the UNSC Marines and police mostly for "motivating" and/or subduing others in a painful way, but with no long-lasting effects.

When the Spartan children first arrived at Reach in 2517, the batons were used by Chief Petty Officer Mendez to "motivate" them at first, though they soon grew to cooperate with him and the devices were not needed.[1]

The Humbler Stun Device was also used by Office of Naval Intelligence interrogators on Insurrectionist prisoners.[2]

They were also used by bouncers at a Chicago club, at which they tried to use the devices on Avery Johnson.[3]

Trivia

  • Criminals commonly refer to them as "shock sticks."[4]
