Notability of the "ambiguous" countries listed[edit]

My take on some of the pages:

  • Tanzania - notable enough, given that it's the setting of several game levels and home to not just one or two but several named in-universe locations. - Keep
  • Cuba - the Havana article will probably suffice, given that there's next to no info on the country itself in the 26th-century context. - Delete
  • Japan - the page is largely about generic references to Japan or Japanese names and less about the country itself; so, not really notable as it stands. - Delete
  • China - despite the almost nonexistent notability otherwise, there is that bit about resources from the Encyclopedia which can't really be conveyed elsewhere - thus, a somewhat reluctant Keep
  • Canada - it's on the brink, really - there's a few mentions and character appearances, but ultimately it's no more notable than the UK, for instance. - Delete
  • Mexico - definitely not notable, given that there's only one offhand mention (the UK, for instance, had plenty more). - Delete --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 14:11, 5 February 2014 (EST)
This would seem to be the case for all of the countries with their disputed notability.— subtank 14:53, 5 February 2014 (EST)
To be more clear on my stance I've added votes on the preferred course of action for each of the pages. The info bits from the Encyclopedia are a funny thing because it's obvious that the writers got the idea to include the countries from this wiki and then they added their own fluff to justify their inclusion in the book (whereas in prior canon the countries had only been mentioned either indirectly or in passing). As much as I'm reluctant to use that book for anything canon, most of the information on the countries doesn't contradict with anything - so technically we should include it (or we could always just ignore it). There may have been more fluff on even some of the nations whose pages were already deleted, it just never made it here from the Encyclopedia. Will have to look into that, since unique in-universe info (and not just a passing mention) would actually justify the inclusion of some of those pages. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 00:05, 6 February 2014 (EST)
I can agree to the above. I tend to feel the same way about the unique info presented in the Encyclopedia.--Spartacus TalkContribs 13:41, 6 February 2014 (EST)
While we're on the subject, what about Earth's continents? Most of them have only a passing mention as well or inherit notability from other articles. If I had to say, the only ones that are really notable are Africa and North America.--Spartacus TalkContribs 13:52, 6 February 2014 (EST)

I would also say that "United States" is no longer notable to have its own article as, from an in-universe POV, much of what remains of the US has been merged into URNA. The article on US is simply a duplicate of the article on URNA: whatever happened in the US happened in URNA. Don't you think so? — subtank 19:56, 8 February 2014 (EST)

I agree. I also propose we change the focus of the Europe article to cover the European Union, rather than the continent, since the EU has more canon relevance than what is comparatively trivial information about the continent itself. That, and we could use subsections on both the URNA and EU pages to cover any information relevant specifically to their member countries.--Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 08:55, 9 February 2014 (EST)
I agree. It makes more sense to have it that way.--Spartacus TalkContribs 11:22, 9 February 2014 (EST)
