More...[edit]

I'm sure the creators of this project are already aware of this, but just a reminder that Era icons are needed for the HGN, GoO, and ILB before we can start adding them to every appropriate article. --ED(talk)(gaming) 03:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I've already made the HGN and GoO images; all we need are ilb. güéߣ¥-πéҐøñ¥-ħîИg¥ 03:24, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Halo Wars is also likely needed, too. --ED(talk)(gaming) 19:01, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Aight, I'll make one for each of those in a while... right now I'm gonna go play Halo, since I just now found the only tutorial I've ever seen on corner riding. Actually, I'll make an article first. güéߣ¥-πéҐøñ¥-ħîИg¥ 19:05, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
ED, I that email, I already said I needed to get ILB and RvB. Check it. ;-) Cheers, RelentlessRecusant progress-wheel.gif TALKWORKSPEAK 19:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

titled links[edit]

shouldn't the little pictures be titled links, like in Template:Admins? like [[Era|H3]] would show the image up in the corner and it would say "This article is about halo 3" and then you click on it and it takes you to Halo 3. just an idea Phil.e. [Talk to me] 19:44, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Already spoke to Phil.e. on CGI:IRC, deemed temporarily infeasible. Cheers, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team File:Fleet Admiral.jpg|25px]] TALKSPEAK 21:23, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

infeasible? it works, just look at the top right... Phil.e. [Talk to me] 16:32, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

I like Phil's idea, and in fact its crucial - visitors who aren't familiar with the site might not be aware of their meaning. I'll take a look at the coding of both later, but its most likely beyond my abilities. Will scrounge up some help from others if needed. -- Manticore File:Fleet Admiral.jpg|20px]] Talk | CSV 01:42, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Level Icons[edit]

It'll probably be hard for you guys but I think there should eventually be icons for levels. There probably wouldn't be pictures for all of 'em but there could like abbreviations such as AotCR for Assault on the Control Room.Just an idea.Śþλ®ţÿмЭ™ Talk 17:56, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Categories maybe, but icons are a bit over the top. Not many articles are related to only one level, and thus, we could potentially end up with far too many era icons on pages. Most pages relating to a specific level link to it in the opening sentence anyway. -- Manticore File:Fleet Admiral.jpg|20px]] Talk | CSV 01:46, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

MORE![edit]

Iris, Halo: Uprising and Halo: Contact Harvest probably need icons sooner or later, too. --ED(talk)(gaming) 05:08, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

New Icons?[edit]

With lots of new info from Waypoint and the Encyclopedia, should they have era icons too? --Jugus 15:18, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

I don't think that would be necessary.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 15:22, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
I was just keeping in mind that the Era template is useful if one doesn't know where a particular article's info is from. As the Encyclopedia and waypoint are relatively major sources of canon information, and some people may not have access to them, it would be reasonable for them to have era icons. Plus, there is already an icon for Xbox.com. I'd hardly say that's more significant than Waypoint or the Encyclopedia. Also there are already pages that have no era icon at all, because all of the info becomes from the encyclopedia and not anywhere else.
By the way, is the Realworld template going to be integrated into this one any time soon?--Jugus 15:46, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
It will be once all of its links have been removed and replaced with the Era template (by simply adding RW in the template parameters). Waypoint is a hub to publish media and not full informations, thus, I don't think we need one for that. For the Encyclopaedia; let me discuss this with other Administrators.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 16:27, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, i thought i'd just point those out. Although new canon information is published through Waypoint; The former Ascendant Justice staff does that on Sundays. It isn't much, but there's always a fair bit of new info. For example, the stuff about the Say My Name or Uplift Reserve. And they expand it every week.--Jugus 16:40, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
I agree that we need an Era icon for the Encyclopedia. It pretty much can be considered a published Halo Bible, after all. --UNSC Trooper File:unsctrooper_small.jpg|14px]] TalkMy Work 18:04, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Ok. I guess we can include Halo Encyclopaedia in the Era Icon list.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 18:13, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Is the Bungie Staff template going to be integrated into the Era template any time soon? I was just wondering this because if it's going to be included, the bstaff boxes could be deleted at the same time as the Realworld ones - this would save a lot of work. But will it work if the "BS" is added to articles right now, or does it have to be added only after it's been included to the Era template? --Jugus 21:52, November 25, 2009 (UTC)
I'm trying to get the perfect GIF image to represent Bungie Staff. So, it could take a while. Regardless, you can proceed by adding "BS" now. It will not show up in the article until I upload the image.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 22:03, November 25, 2009 (UTC)
Nice, but right now, the Bstaff icon links to a nonexistent page; "Bungie Staff". Might wanna change it to link to the category. And speaking of new era icons, I think Evolutions should have one. After all, it seems to be a pretty big source to new stuff. --Jugus 13:57, November 26, 2009 (UTC)
As per above. We definitely need the Evolutions icon.--Thanksgiving.jpg General5 7 Gobble? 18:19, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Evolutions Icon[edit]

Just to note, the Halo: Evolutions icon is slightly smaller then the other icons. It isn't that big of a deal, but it looks a little uneven when lined up with the other icons.

-- General5 7 talk contribs email 17:28, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

I noticed this too. I tracked down the issue to the Era icon template. It's sourcing the image
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/thumb/5/5c/Era-HE.gif/25px-Era-HE.gif
for the evolutions, producing a 25 by 25 pixel image. It should be
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/thumb/5/5c/Era-HE.gif/28px-Era-HE.gif
which is the url for a 28 by 28 px image. I'd change this but the page is protected. Ashfire908 00:15, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
Forerunner fixed it. Ashfire908 19:56, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

Problems[edit]

Some articles have so many eras that not all of them show up, UNSC and Sangheili for example. I would suggest that the template be modified so that it begins a new line when the first fills up. Also, why is Evolutions listed under comic books?EldritchWarlord 22:04, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

Found the problem; it is only available for 16 images. Fixed placement of Evolutions.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 22:06, June 12, 2010 (UTC)
What happens if there were to be more than the 16 maximum? --SPARTAN-125 Cally99117

Xbox.com icon[edit]

Should the Xbox.com era icon be removed, seeing as the old Halo timeline page (what the icon was for) doesn't even exist anymore?

On a related note concerning the new era icons, I think that the UNSC emblem would be better as the Colonial and Insurrection era icon than a random insurgent symbol since the era is mainly about the UNSC itself. Anyways, that's just my opinion. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 18:26, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

Done.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 18:31, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking more along the lines of the black UNSC logo since it stands out from the background more and is more iconic than the colorful one, but after repeatedly failing to implement it myself I gave up. Where is that colorful UNSC logo from anyways?
Also, I was thinking that the post-war era should have a recognizable in-universe icon. I see now that it has a... hammer, which probably has some clever connection to the era but seeing as the other icons are from the Halo universe itself (minus Earth), this one would benefit from being that as well. However, it is pretty hard to come up with an icon that would symbolize that era the best since we've seen so little of it that there are no recognizable icons yet. How about the Marathon logo? It's one of the franchise's most recognizable symbols along with the other icons and has been applied to a variety of places in the past. Plus, as the Reclaimer symbol, it kind of represents the post-war era; the humans are beginning to understand their place as the Reclaimers, and from clues we've seen, I doubt Halo 3 is the last we will see of the Forerunners. Now I know that the Marathon logo already being used as the Bungie staff icon, but I think there's a better replacement for that; the Seventh Column. While the Marathon logo has always been part of Bungie's imagery, the 7th column is the closest we have to a Bungie symbol beside their actual logo. Just a thought. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 07:46, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
The colourful UNSC logo was made by Tony. It's most certainly more eye-pleasing than the bland original. Also, done with the era template. Seventh Column now represents the Bungie Staff and Marathon logo represents the Post-war.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 08:02, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
Hm. Guess it's just a matter of taste then; I think the official UNSC logo looks a lot better and more coherent than the colorful one - the fact it's fan-made doesn't really help either. It's okay though; I'm going to have to stop complaining about everything before everyone starts thinking I'm doing it on purpose. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 08:11, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

Music/achievements/levels[edit]

So, what are we going to do with the era icons in articles about things like music pieces, levels or achievements? I don't recall there being a mention of this in the original proposal. For me, it would make sense to use the game era icon in non-in-universe topics such as those but since we're apparently getting rid of them, are we only going to use the Realworld era? --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 22:29, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

Keeping RW sounds good enough.-- Forerunner 22:36, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
Probably. That said, do the level articles need the "HCW" era or does it only go to in-universe topics? Really, we should come up with a page that has thorough instructions on the use of the new Era/appearance format. In fact, we should've had that before the new system was implemented... --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 07:46, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
All of the timeline era icons should only be applied to in-universe topics. With that said, real-world articles need none of them other than the RW.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 07:52, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

343 Staff[edit]

New era icon, 343 industries staff. Since we have {{BS}} as Bungie Staff, we should also have {{343S}} on the 343i Staff members pages. Thanks. :D —S331 Bubbleshieldhud.svg(When I played Halo: CE, we didn't have any fancy-shmancy armor abilities...) 12:03, 26 July 2011 (EDT)

Mythos and an official timeline of eras[edit]

So I was wondering if this should be updated at all based on the official timeline presented in Halo Mythos? It lists the eras as follows:

  • The Forerunner Legacy (10,000,000 BCE - 852 CE)
  • Rise of Humanity (2080-2552)
  • End of the War (2552)
  • The Aftermath (2553-2556)
  • Return of the Prometheans (2557-2558)

Seems like a reasonable list imo. --Crisperstorm (talk) 15:54, 6 September 2016 (EDT)
