Suspension manacle

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

An activated suspension manacle.

Suspension manacles[1] are a piece of Covenant technology used to physically restrain an individual.[2] The Banished later used this technology to restrain prisoners, as well.[3]

Overview[edit]

When activated, the suspension manacles emits a blue ring of energy around one of the limbs of an individual, and levitates in a fixed position, making it extremely difficult to move. The manacles also have the ability to electrocute the restrained individual.[2] Suspension manacles used by the Banished emitted orange-red rings of energy, but otherwise served the exact same function.[3]

Usage history[edit]

In October 2552, a pair of torture manacles were used to restrain Thel 'Vadamee while he was branded with the Mark of Shame.[2] Sali 'Nyon was bound by a set of suspension manacles when he was captured by Jul 'Mdama's forces in July 2558.[4] During the Battle for Zeta Halo, Spartan Hudson Griffin and Fernando Esparza were restrained inside Banished torture machines by suspension manacles.[3] Combat Medic Lucas Browning was also subjected to the same torture devices by Chak 'Lok, and later by Jega 'Rdomnai at his personal base, Rdomnai Keep. By the time Lucas was found and rescued by the Master Chief, the skin on his wrists and ankles had been rubbed raw and left rotting by the suspension manacles.[1]

Production notes[edit]

Suspension manacles first appeared in Halo 2 where they were not yet officially named. Game files refer to the devices simply as manacles,[5] and the electrocuting beams as "torture beams".[6]
