'''Project: BOOKWORM''' is a multi-facted project of the [[United Nations Space Command]] that is focused on the [[Domain]] and the ancient [[Forerunner]]s.

==Overview==
Project: BOOKWORM has several objectives. The project began with and continued with the objective of using [[343 Guilty Spark]] to corroborate the events depicted in the [[Bornstellar Relation]] and confirm his own testimony from the {{UNSCShip|Rubicon}}.{{Ref/Reuse|Renegades13}} BOOKWORM is ultimately about gaining access to the [[Domain]], which ONI viewed as something of a holy grail.{{Ref/Novel|Id=Renegades23|HRen|Chapter=23}} The project is heavily compartmentalized, with each division being unaware of the full scope of the project.{{Ref/Novel|Id=Renegades13|HRen|Chapter=13}}

It was hoped that eventually the Domain could be claimed for humanity.{{Ref/Novel|Id=ET48|ET|Chapter=48}} Additionally, it is hoped that these studies would lead to longer lifespans for [[human]] [[Smart AI]]s.{{Ref/Reuse|Renegades13}}

===Formation===
The project was formed shortly after the discovery of 343 Guilty Spark's testimony, which was ejected from the {{UNSCShip|Rubicon}} in late [[2555]]. Another important document was discovered the year before the project was formed in the [[2554|spring of 2554]]. This was the [[Bornstellar Relation]] which was found on [[Onyx]].{{Ref/Reuse|Renegades13}}

===Earth===
BOOKWORM has a facility in the town of [[Voi]], with a large-scale computer center designed to cut off [[Forerunner]] [[ancilla]]s from the rest of the [[Milky Way|the galaxy]].{{Ref/Reuse|Renegades13}}

BOOKWORM has also been involved in exploring and researching the ancient ruins discovered on [[Heian]]. To accomplish their goals Project: BOOKWORM was assigned a prowler, the {{UNSCShip|Bad Moon Rising}}, and a six member asset recovery team plucked from various [[UNSC Special Forces]] groups and the [[Delta-6]] candidate pool, led by Captain [[Hollier]]. The asset recovery team received training from the [[Reverse Engineering and Prototyping–Xenotechnology department]] and the [[Xeno-Materials Exploitation Group]] on how to identify and handle Forerunner technology. The team also included a trauma medic and the Smart AI [[Thea]], who is fully aware of the scope of BOOKWORM.{{Ref/Reuse|Renegades13}}
