The Sentinel Beam is a weapon that is featured in the Halo 3: ODST component of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It was not included in the original Xbox 360 and Collection releases of ODST due to the game's lack of Sentinel enemies or Forerunner environments, and only introduced into the Collection for use in Firefight in the 2022 Floodfight update (alongside a player-useable Energy Sword).[1][2]

Universe and lore[edit]

Main article: Sentinel beam

Sentinel Beams are sterilization weapons used by the eponymous Sentinels for Flood containment.

Gameplay[edit]

Counterparts[edit]

Firefight[edit]

Halo 3: ODST takes place entirely within the city of New Mombasa fighting against Covenant enemies; as such, the Sentinel Beam does not appear in the game's campaign. It was first made useable in the game's Firefight mode with the Floodfight update in 2022, which added Flood and Sentinel enemies to the game (among others).[1] It reuses the model, texture, and tag as the iteration of the weapon included in Halo 3.

In Firefight, the Sentinel Beam can be set as a spawn option in custom gametype settings. It is used as a weapon by Sentinel Minors and Majors, who drop the weapon on death.
