Geranos-a was an uninhabited planet in the Ibycus system.
Overview[edit]
Geranos-a is the closest planet to the single star of the Ibycus system.[1] Geranos-a has no moons.[2]
It is a sand-colored world[1] with an atmosphere so thin that anyone stranded on the planet would slowly suffocate.[3] The atmosphere was mostly made of carbons.[4] The surface reminded Rion Forge of old pictures of Mars before the planet was terraformed. The surface is primarily rock and sand with winds that can get up to at least twenty knots.[5]
History[edit]
In 2554, after hijacking the UNSC Rubicon,[6] 343 Guilty Spark took it through one of Installation 00's remaining active slipspace portals with the intention of taking it to the shield world Trove to get an upgrade seed, unaware that Trove had been destroyed in 2531 by the crew of the UNSC Spirit of Fire.[4] However, there were complications after Spark took control and the Rubicon crashed into Geranos-a.[7] The crash killed everyone on board, though Spark survived by transferring himself into an armiger salvaged by the Rubicon from the Ark. Spark buried the crew in a mass grave on the planet and calculated that he was only 62.35% culpable in the tragedy. Spark sent out a distress signal[3] that was eventually picked up by a cargo ship three years later in 2557 and passed on to the military. Having learned of Spark's story, ONI intended to capture the AI for themselves,[8] deploying a commsat to block anyone else from receiving the distress call.[1]
The crew of the salvager ship Ace of Spades learned of Spark's distress call from what a recording glove picked up while they were on the UNSC Taurokado. Desperate to recover what ONI took from them, the crew decided to investigate and recover whatever was so important to use as leverage.[1] Once in orbit, Niko disabled and captured the commsat and deployed Michelle for reconnaissance, spotting Spark's tracks in the sand and shelter. The ship landed and, wearing oxygen converters and reserve tanks, Rion Forge, Niko and Lessa set out to investigate. Locating the Rubicon, the crew recovered Spark's armiger along with anything else that they could find of value.[5] Shortly after Spark revealed himself,[7] the Taurokado arrived. Spark was able to make a slipspace jump from the stratosphere as Geranos-a's atmosphere was thin and mostly composed of carbons.[4]
In August 2558, after realizing that there was a tracking device on the Ace of Spades, Spark laid in decoy coordinates for Geranos-a rather than Erebus VII before making a slipspace jump.[9]
