The Ascetic harness is an armor set used by the Sangheili Ascetics.

Design details[edit]

The Ascetic helmet has an archaic design with bulbous eye lenses and two silvery tusk-like protrusions, on a helm with a bulbous forehead and concave rear. The protrusions extend backwards to partially cover the throat and neck; they bear a superficial similarity to Sangheili curveblades. The pauldrons of the Ascetic harness are rounded and conform closely to the wearer's shoulders.^[1]

The Ascetic harness' thoracic cage is similar to the standard combat harness. The only noticeable difference is a long plate, shaped like the English letter "I", filling what would otherwise be a gap between the right and left breastplate.^[1]

Usage[edit]

The Ascetic harness is utilized exclusively by the ancient Ascetic Order,^[2] especially the militant Ascetic Guard. The Ascetic Guard was dissolved according to the terms of the Writ of Union at the genesis of the Covenant, and instead folded under the authority of the San'Shyuum-controlled Ministry of Abnegation.^[3] It is unknown whether the Ascetic harness was used by this organization; on the other hand, the Ascetics themselves continued to recruit worthy warriors into their ranks in secret in order to keep their martial ideals.^[4]^[5]

After the Great Schism, the Ascetic Order was revived.^[6] By 2558, at least one of Thel 'Vadam's personal guard during the Battle of Ealen IV employed the Ascetic harness.^[7] An Ascetic chest and pauldron were later worn by Zef 'Trahl.^[8]

Halo 3[edit]

The Ascetic harness is unlockable as an armor permutation for Elite characters in Halo 3. Even though the Ascetic helmet has a longer model than the other Elite helmets due to its tusks, it still has the same hitbox as any other Elite helmet in Halo 3.

The Ascetic harness is one of several alternate appearances available for the Arbiter character in Killer Instinct. It consists of options for the head, body, and legs. Much like other armor systems available in that game, each piece of the Ascetic harness comes in a variety of colours: the options are blue, gold, pale gold and blue, purple, and onyx black.^[5]
