Verent was an Outer Colony planet of the Unified Earth Government.[2] The colony ship Spirit of Fire was deployed to the planet in 2520; this would be the ship's last mission before it was appropriated by the UNSC Navy as a combat support vessel.[3] Verent was glassed during the Human-Covenant War when the Covenant attacked the planet. Only a small portion of Verent's population escaped aboard fleeing transport ships.[1]
Linda Pravdin, a future Spartan-II supersoldier, was born on Verent on March 19, 2511.[2] The planet was also the birthplace of Luther Mann and his family, who narrowly escaped Verent's destruction at the hands of the Covenant and fled to Earth.[1]
