Human-Covenant War[edit]

Main article: Operation: GREY VEIL

Prior to a visit to Heian in 2544,[1] a UNSC team dispatched from the Diligence-class light destroyer UNSC Kronstadt, comprised of several Orbital Drop Shock Troopers and led by the Spartan-II Cal-141, managed to slip past Covenant army patrols on Heian and take up an overwatch position above a landing zone in a staging area.[2]

Just before the Spartan was able to shoot the Prophet after his arrival in a Phantom to inspect the main ruins complex in his landing site, a Jiralhanae Chieftain snuck up on the team and injured the veteran sniper. During which, ODSTs intercepted and killed the Jiralhanae and a fatally wounded Cal ordered O'Brien to take the shot. After sighting in on the unsuspecting Prophet, O'Brien managed to kill the alien from a distance of two miles. Upon the Prophet's death, his Sangheili, Unggoy, and Jiralhanae bodyguards at the Prophet's landing site for his arrival, completely caught by surprise, cried out in great emotional distress at the loss of their leader and shame in failing to protect him.[2]

The Prophet's death allowed for the United Nations Space Command to regroup and exploit the new weakness in the Covenant supply chain.[citation needed]
