Unknown to the group, they were actually heading to the [[Flood Containment Facilities]], where the Covenant had already accidentally released the [[Flood]]. On this date, the squad was [[Outbreak at the Containment Facility|deployed]] to a [[Flood containment facility]] on [[Installation 04]] at the behest of Captain [[Jacob Keyes]]. Lovik was left in charge of second squad while [[Fire Team Charlie]] headed into the facility, with second squad ordered to cover the [[fireteam]]'s retreat. Second squad was ultimately ambushed by the [[Flood]], with Lovik attempting to make a desperate last transmission to Fire Team Charlie before his death and presumed [[Flood combat form|conversion]].{{Ref/Reuse|343GS}}{{Ref/Reuse|HTFC6}}


Lovik and his men had then been attacked by a group of Flood, and made it to back to the surface and took refuge in a structure. Based on his transmission to Johnson, it was likely he had been attacked by an [[Infection Form]], and had either torn it off, or another Marine helped him. They were eventually joined by a few escaped survivors of the first squad, including Private Bisenti.
Later on, a recording of Lovik's transmission would be discovered by [[John-117]] during his own expedition to the facility.{{Ref/Reuse|343GS}}

When the Chief arrived at their position, Lovik and the remaining members of his squad followed him to a large tower where [[Foe Hammer]] was extracting them. Fighting through waves of Flood, it is unknown whether Lovik was turned into a [[Combat Form]], or was picked up by [[Echo 419]], but his death was confirmed when the Chief destroyed the ''[[UNSC Pillar of Autumn|Pillar of Autumn]]''’s fusion reactors.

Corporal Lovik was a UNSC Marine corporal attached to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn in 2552.[2]

Biography[edit]

Fall of Reach[edit]

Lovik was present on the UNSC Pillar of Autumn when it fled from the planet Reach at the end of the Fall of Reach in August 2552.[2]

Battle of Installation 04[edit]

By September 22, 2552, Lovik was a senior member of second squad. On this date, the squad was deployed to a Flood containment facility on Installation 04 at the behest of Captain Jacob Keyes. Lovik was left in charge of second squad while Fire Team Charlie headed into the facility, with second squad ordered to cover the fireteam's retreat. Second squad was ultimately ambushed by the Flood, with Lovik attempting to make a desperate last transmission to Fire Team Charlie before his death and presumed conversion.[1][2]

Later on, a recording of Lovik's transmission would be discovered by John-117 during his own expedition to the facility.[1]

Production notes[edit]

During the Halo: Combat Evolved cutscene in which he contacted Johnson and Keyes, Lovik was voiced by Bungie employee Chris Carney.[3]
