The Broadsword catches up with him just before he enters Slipspace and needing to follow and stop him, the Master Chief flies the fighter into the trenches of the ship to piggy-back a ride to Earth. After fighting through the trenches and making it to Earth, the Master Chief takes out Mantle's Approach's point-defense guns so the Infinity can punch a hole in the ship so the Broadsword can enter. The hole is blown and the fighter enters the ship, but as the walls close in on it, crashes, forcing the Master Chief to take the nuke on foot to the Composer.

Like the Sabre, the Broadsword has energy shielding that covers the entire fighter and recharges when depleted. However, these shields are not capable of being used for Slipspace travel so the only way the Broadsword can travel in Slipspace is to ride along with a Slipspace-capable ship. The Broadsword posseses machine guns and missile pods and can carry payloads of nuclear weapons.

Template:New Content Template:Vehicle Infobox The F-41 Exoatmospheric Multirole Strike Fighter, commonly known as the Broadsword,[1] is a VTOL multi-role atmospheric/exoatmospheric (A/X) strike fighter used by the UNSC Defense Force. Like other UNSC A/X attack craft, the Broadsword is named after a bladed weapon. The Template:UNSCship carries a complement of Broadswords, likely totaling several dozen. Ivanoff Station also posseses at least one, indicating they are commonplace on UNSC instatllations for defense. The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Aviator helmet is recommended for use by Broadsword crew members.[2][3]

Specifications

Like the Sabre, the Broadsword has energy shielding that covers the entire fighter and recharges when depleted. However, these shields are not rated for Slipspace travel.[4] The Broadsword is equipped with two M1075 ASW/AC 35mm MLA cannons and two M6088 ST/MMP missile pods. It can also be equipped with a HAVOK tactical nuclear weapon.[4]

History

Broadswords were first seen flying over the UNSC Infinity's commisioning ceremony. Ivanoff Station carried Broadsword fighters in its hanger, presumably for protection in case of an attack. After The Didact used the Composer to digitize everyone in the station, John-117 took one, arming it with a HAVOK tactical nuclear weapon intending to destroy the Didact's ship and prevent him from unsing the Composer on humanity. John caught up with him just before he entered Slipspace, and after arriving at Earth, used the Broadsword to take out the Mantle's Approach's point-defense guns so that the Infinity could punch a hole in the ship so that John could flly inside the ship and deliver the nuclear weapon. Howver, as John makes him way inside the ship, the walls close in on his Broadsword, imcompacitating his fighter, forcing him to carry the HAVOK to the Composer.[5]
