A Cylix is a genetic repository used by Forerunners to store and catalogue indexed specimens. Cylixes were mainly used in order to reseed life in the galaxy after the activation of the Halo Array.
Overview
Cylixes take the form of large slabs with intricate hardlight carvings that give an illustration of whichever specimen resides within them.
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
While their main purpose was repopulation, for others they are a prison. Entities such as the Harbinger who were deemed a threat by the forerunners were imprisoned inside Cylixes.
