New Tyne is a city on Venezia home to a very heterogeneous population, consisting of humans, Kig-Yar, Unggoy, and Jiralhanae.[1] New Tyne was essentially the only settlement on Venezia.[2]
History
New Tyne is the most prominent location on Venezia. It is a hotspot for Insurrectionist activity and a refuge for both human and non-human deserters and criminals. It was the kind of place where everybody practically knew everyone. The city had an armed militia under the control of a centralized Insurrectionist leadership headed by Peter Moritz.[3]
In March 2553, Malcolm Geffen and Vasily Beloi infiltrated the city with the help of Mike Spenser. They discovered Jiralhanae, Kig-Yar and Unggoy were all operating out of here. It was here that they discovered Staffan Sentzke, Naomi-010's father, had joined the Insurrectionist movement.[4]
Later in April, Kilo-Five resumed their investigation of New Tyne. Naomi and Vaz alerted Spenser when they spotted Sentzke in company with Shipmaster Sav Fel, the possessor of the stolen Covenant battlecruiser Pious Inquisitor. Before Naomi was substituted with Mal, she and Vaz went to Stavros's bar where they met Nairn, a member of the militia. Later on, Mal and Vaz met with Nairn and successfully infiltrated the local militia.
Description
New Tyne was a small town with a mixed population. Under the de facto governance of the Venezian militia, New Tyne was the only town on Venezia.[2] The town was home to the militia's barracks. Scattered farms and factories were found ten to fifteen kilometers away from the city.[5] The town itself had small homes, buildings, and office blocks that were generally similar in appearance. While New Tyne had no visible battle damage, some of the town's intersections had anti-air batteries sitting on the corners.[6] The south end of New Tyne was home to an old slate quarry and 15 Mount Longdon Road, Staffan Sentzke's homestead.[7] The quarry was formed during the excavation of sandstone for the city. It was later converted into a cathedral-like hangar, holding numerous aircraft for the militia.[8] Numerous bars were found throughout the town; Stavros's bar was popular with the militia and some Kig-Yar.[9] South of New Tyne, there was a large, uninhabited forest.[10] The western side of the town was bordered by a river. Shipmaster Sav Fel lived in a large manor five kilometers west of New Tyne.[11]
