Wang was a UNSC Naval crewman on the Pillar of Autumn when it crashed on Installation 04. Fortunately, he escaped the dying vessel on the Bumblebee life pod Kilo Tango Victor 17 with a few others, including his commanding officer, Captain Keyes.[1]

While they evaded veteran Covenant troops with the help of Wilkins and several other marines, Wang and the others could not help but notice the incessant whining of Ensign Ellen Dowski. Her whines soon turned into much more serious accusations of Keyes using those under his command so he could make a higher rank, and that they should surrender to the Covenant. Lieutenant Hikowa and Singh were the first to suspect Dowski of being traitorous and he wanted to kill her.[2] Wang stuck his M6D Pistol to her head and told her to be quiet or he would shoot her, and then jokingly told William Michael Lovell to check to see if her face was a mask, because she looked just like a Grunt to him. Keyes was more lenient and decided to tie her up and leave her.[3]

A Covenant Elite and some Grunts found Ellen and she told the Covenant where Wang and the others were, and they were overwhelmed.[4] Wang was shot between the shoulder blades with a Plasma Pistol when he tried to run into a nearby forest, dying because of Ellen's treachery.[5]
