A Kig-Yar Minor is the lowest rank in the Kig-Yar rank structure. They are effectively equal in rank to the UNSC Private, Private First Class or Lance Corporal. They are commonly seen wielding turquoise personal arm shields on their right arm and wielding plasma weaponry on their left as opposed to their superior officers that wields orange (Halo 2)/purple (Halo 3) personal arm shields.

They are effectively equal to the UNSC Private or PFC or Lance Corporal. Donning a turquoise shield on their right arm, they occasionally lead a few Grunts into battle. However, they will retreat if their shield is depleted. They are commanded by Major Grunts, Gunner Grunts, Spec Ops Grunts, and Ultra Grunts. They usually jump out of Spirits or Phantoms first. They are higher than Minor Grunts. Like Grunts, they are low-ranking in the Covenant hierarchy, and are considered inferior to Brutes, Elites and Hunters.

Minor Jackals always carry Plasma Pistols as their standard weapon. They tend to overcharge the pistols, and use their shields to block enemy fire. The best way to kill them is to use a Frag Grenade. You can use a Pistol, Battle Rifle, Sniper Rifle or any precision weapon to shoot their hand and make them open their shield up so you can shoot their body. You can also try to flank them where there is no protection and take them out. An overcharged Plasma Pistol will overload their shields, but it will eventually recharge. Meleeing them is also effective but is risky and not advisable on higher difficulty settings due to the Plasma Pistol's high rate of fire.
Kig-Yar Minors are known for wielding Plasma Pistols as their standard weapon of choice. When engaging an enemy, they tend to overcharge their Plasma Pistols to eliminate its enemy's energy shield and release volleys of plasma bolts to quickly eliminate them. When engaged by an enemy, Minors will use its personal arm shields to block enemy fire.

Like all Jackals, except for Sniper Jackals, Minor Jackals carry energy shields. They are vulnerable to Plasma Pistol or Plasma Rifle fire. One Shotgun hit to their frail body will kill them.
When engaging a Kig-Yar Minor from afar, it is best to use a precision weapon such as the M6 Pistols, Battle Rifle and Covenant Carbine and aim at their exposed left hand. From medium range, weapons such as the Plasma Rifle, the SMG and the Assault Rifle provide good suppressive fire against the Minors as they will make the Kig-yar Minor off guard and unable to fire its weapon, followed by a quick melee to kill it off. Alternatively, one can eliminate the Kig-yar's personal arm shield by firing an overcharged Plasma bolt from a Plasma Pistol. Once the personal arm shield collapses, the Kig-yar Minor is open to all attacks.

Also, as soon as you get close enough to a Minor, it will cover its head with its arms, hunch low, and run away. This exposes most of the back, and sometimes the head to fire. The shield may still remain charged up and protect part of if their body.
On higher difficulties, it is advisable for players to utilise either long-range firing technique using a precision weapon or the overcharged plasma bolt.

Description

Like Unggoy, the Kig-Yar are commonly seen in combat and are engaged as cannon fodder. Because of this, they are seen in almost every engagement with other types of Covenant forces. Kig-Yar Minors simply devote their combat time to bombard the player with volleys of plasma bolts on the ground.

Combat

Kig-Yar Minors are known for wielding Plasma Pistols as their standard weapon of choice. When engaging an enemy, they tend to overcharge their Plasma Pistols to eliminate its enemy's energy shield and release volleys of plasma bolts to quickly eliminate them. When engaged by an enemy, Minors will use its personal arm shields to block enemy fire.

On higher difficulties, it is advisable for players to utilise either long-range firing technique using a precision weapon or the overcharged plasma bolt.

Appearances

In Halo 2, they are the Arbiter's allies only on the level Sacred Icon where they accompany the Arbiter on a mission to recover the "Sacred Icon", which is Installation 05's Activation Index.
