Loaded for Bear was a commercial Parabola-class freighter active during the turn of the 26th century.[1]
Operational history[edit]
In early 2495, the Unified Earth Government ambassador Alan Avis was promoting a cultural exchange program between Earth and selected Outer Colonies to ease rising political tensions. As part of this program, Loaded for Bear was tasked with transporting a collection of valuable canvas paintings to Elysium City on Eridanus II. Among its cargo was Francisco Goya's Saturn Devouring His Son, Diego Velázquez's The Farmers' Lunch, and Louis Wain's The Bachelor Party.[1]
When the freighter exited slipspace into the Eridanus system, it was quickly intercepted and boarded by the Eridanus Twelve, a notorious band of pirates. The thieves looted the old-Earth artworks from the freighter and ejected the vessel's unharmed crew of twenty on a lifeboat marked with their group's infamous calling card. The Eridanus Twelve made off with their spoils and left no trail of their successful heist. In response to the boarding and daring theft, the Office of Naval Intelligence wiped all public records of the incident and de-registered Loaded for Bear with the goal of preventing the pirate group from gaining further infamy in a time of rising colonial unrest.[1]
