Kilimanjaro Forerunner complex

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

The Kilimanjaro Forerunner complex is a Forerunner underground structure located beneath Mount Kilimanjaro on Earth. Constructed by the Librarian, its purpose was to hold a Lifeworker pod containing a personality imprint of the supreme Lifeshaper to help guide humanity.[1][2]

Design[edit]

Positioned beneath the peak of Mawenzi, which overlooked the Excession, the complex was accessed through a passage beneath a rocky overhang on the mountain's slopes. The passage had dozens of ancient pictographs on the walls eventually giving way to Forerunner glyphs. A biometric panel opened a hidden doorway at the touch of a Reclaimer. On the other side, the passage closely skirted the wall as the rest of the space was a drop-off before leveling out and widening into what seemed to be a dead end. However, a narrow opening led into a zigzagging passageway. At the end of the passage was an energy barrier with another terminal to deactivate it and then a ledge with a light bridge leading to the center of the complex.[1]

On a peninsula of rock in the center, a cylindrical hard light column contained the Lifeworker pod holding the Librarian's personality imprint which was accessed through another terminal which deactivated a barrier around the column. The terminal could also be used to deactivate the light bridge from the far side.[1][2][3]

In addition, the platform that the column was on contained a translocation pad that sent any users to just below the summit of Mawenzi.[4] It was a static portal that only went to one destination.[5]

History[edit]

The Librarian repurposed one of the Sentinels that accompanied her to Earth to construct the facility.[1]

On September 1, 2557, 343 Guilty Spark led the crew of the Ace of Spades to the complex so that he could access the Librarian's personality imprint, wanting to bring back his friends Riser and Vinnevra. After Spark revealed to Rion Forge the truth about her father's death, she deactivated the barrier around the pod, allowing Spark access.[1][2][3][6][7]

Inside, Spark met with the Librarian's imprint who was able to pull Spark out of his armiger body and have him appear as Chakas. The Librarian helped Spark to see the folly of his plans and that going to the Domain would be no better. Instead, the Librarian helped Spark to understand that he had already found the friends that he was seeking. Before leaving to go to the Absolute Record, the Librarian gave Spark a small etched box and ordered him to "find what is missing. Fix the path. Right what my kind has turned wrong."[6] The box contained a coordinate key[7] ultimately leading to and granting access to Bastion.[8]

The Librarian departed to the Absolute Record, blinding everyone in the cavern. Before her departure, all of the humans in the cavern beheld the Librarian briefly and she communicated a message to Rion at least which ordered her to take care of Spark, calling Spark more fragile and important than she could ever know. Several hundred people witnessed the light from the Lifeworker pod departing the Earth's atmosphere.[4][9][5]

During this time, ONI found the complex and cornered the Ace of Spades crew. Although Spark deactivated the light bridge,[3] there was no other way out that they could find and ONI got it turned back on in short order. When Spark emerged from the column, he created an avalanche of rock that forced ONI to retreat before the crew used the translocation pad to escape.[4]

ONI was left to explore the Forerunner installation which they realized had most likely contained a personality imprint of the Librarian, all of their forces inside of the facility having witnessed two humanoid figures in the hard light beam before the pod launch.[5]
