Chak 'Lok was born on [[Malurok]] on [[2485#January|January 15, 2485]]. He would go on to serve in the [[Covenant]] [[Covenant military|military]], as was the custom for all male [[Sangheili]]. Eventually, 'Lok earned a placed within the [[Seneschal]] order of the [[Sangheili Ultra|Evocati]].{{Ref/Reuse|EN}}

===Defection===
Before the fall of the Covenant at the end of the [[Human-Covenant War]], Chak 'Lok defected and joined the [[Banished]]. Here, he enjoyed greater autonomy, and was instrumental in recruiting dozens of [[Sangheili Ultra]] divisions into the mercenary organization. As he was particularly adept in the art of interrogation and information extraction, 'Lok put these skills to use on agents of his former empire, collecting intel on strategic locations, targets, and assets that would bolster the Banished arsenal and expand its influence.{{Ref/Reuse|EN}}

===Zeta Halo===

During the [[Installation 07]] [[Battle for Zeta Halo|conflict]], Chak 'Lok interrogated [[UNSC]] [[Prisoner of war|POWs]] in a facility called [[Tower|the Tower]]. This immense stronghold was built specifically for the task of extracting information from these prisoners and acting as a central strategic analysis base, retrieving intel on several key locations on the installation, including the [[Conservatory (location)|Conservatory]].{{Ref/Reuse|EN}} Once all valuable intel had been wrung out of the prisoners via [[Banished torture machine|the Tower's torture machines]], 'Lok would send them on to the [[House of Reckoning (location)|House of Reckoning]]. One of the captives held at the Tower was [[SPARTAN-IV program|Spartan]] [[Hudson Griffin]], who was taken prisoner following a failed attempt to assassinate [[War Chief]] [[Escharum]]. Chak 'Lok also tortured a captured combat medic, [[Lucas Browning]], before handing the human over to the [[Harbinger]], who expressed annoyance at the damage 'Lok had done to the prisoner.{{Ref/Game|HI|HINF:Audio log#The Prisoner 2|UNSC Audio log|Detail=The Prisoner #05 - Barely Anything Left}}

After [[John-117]] was confirmed by [[Banished]] leadership to have returned on May 28, [[2560]], Chak 'Lok set a trap by activating a distress signal within Griffin's [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark VII|armor]], which [[the Weapon]] picked up and the Spartan predictably pursued. 'Lok ordered the facility put into lockdown when the Master Chief arrived and taunted him via [[Holography|hologram]], claiming that the SPARTAN-II would never get inside the Tower. However, with the help of the Weapon, the Master Chief located the security building that controlled the lockdown, lifted it, and ascended into the main structure. John-117 eventually confronted 'Lok, who was torturing Spartan Griffin. The two dueled one-on-one and John-117, with the help of Griffin's recovered [[Threat Sensor]], killed Chak 'Lok despite the latter using his cloak and an [[Energy Sword]] to his advantage. Unfortunately, it was too late for Griffin, who died from his injuries from the torture soon after.{{Ref/Reuse|HI}}

===Legacy===
Following Chak 'Lok's death, [[Glibnub]], the [[Unggoy]] communications officer operating the Banished [[propaganda tower]]s across the Halo, claimed that Chak 'Lok was still "100% alive" and that the Tower had simply been closed for "renovations."{{Ref/Game|HI|Propaganda Tower dialogue|Quote=To all humans looking forward to being interrogated to death, I regret to report that the Tower is closed for renovations by order of Commander Chak 'Lok, who is 100% alive, but don’t worry, we’ll be happy to make other arrangements to send you to whatever stupid afterlife you believe in, or absent that, the inky abyss.|Quotee=Glibnub}} The Banished at the [[Forge of Teash (location)|Forge of Teash]], on the other hand, acknowledged the Tower's fall and put the blame entirely on Chak 'Lok.{{Ref/Quest|Id=FoT quote|HI|Connections|Forge of Teash|Quote=All Banished within the Forge of Teash. [[Gallian]] later blamed the deaths of [[Escharum]], [[Tremonius]], [[Hyperius]], [[Tovarus]], [[En'Geddon]], [[Chak 'Lok]], [[Horatius]] and nearly [[Jega 'Rdomnai]] on Escharum not being brutal enough on their enemies despite the leader's great history of warmongering.{{Ref/Novel|Id=EOD7|EOD|Chapter=7}}

[[Joyeuse]] listed the deaths of Chak 'Lok, Hyperius, Tovarus and Escharum amongst her and the Master Chief's accomplishments as a team to Spartan [[Tomas Horvath]].{{Ref/Novel|Id=EOD14|EOD|Chapter=14}}

While telling the Master Chief about his captivity, [[Lucas Browning]] mentioned how he was imprisoned with Griffin who didn't reveal his identity as Griffin didn't want Chak 'Lok to think that he'd shared intel with Browning which would mean more torture for Browning. The Master Chief revealed Griffin's death to Browning and recalled finding the dying Spartan after killing Chak 'Lok, feeling guilty for not getting to Griffin in time to save his life.{{Ref/Novel|Id=EOD25|EOD|Chapter=25}}

==Personality and traits==
Chak 'Lok often spoke in a calm, polite manner, even when addressing his enemies. However, he quickly dropped this demeanor once the battle started. 'Lok enjoyed torturing his prisoners both physically and mentally.
