Soell is the star that Threshold, Basis, and Installation 04 orbit.^[1] The star seems to be located near the rim of the Milky Way.^[2]^[3]^[4]

The system is named in reference to Matt Soell, a former Bungie employee.^[5]
Prior to Halo: Combat Evolved's release, it was speculated that Soell is actually the star Iota Horologii, based on hints from Bungie that the star was somehow connected to the game's story, specifically a sign left in front of the Bungie Webcam.^{[citation needed]}
