"Matthews" was a young Marine assigned to the UNSC Spirit of Fire when it went missing in 2531. When the ship mysteriously arrived at Installation 00, Matthews was part of the Marine complement assigned to the newly-established base Fort Jordan. When the base was attacked by Jiralhanae Warlord Ristyx, Matthews found himself amongst a small group of survivors led by Corporal Kyla Emmett, though he was soon killed in action. His body was left covered in the tattered remains of a UNSC banner before the rest of the group departed to go to war with Ristyx and the Banished.[1]
