Like other UNSC A/X attack craft, the Broadsword is named after a bladed weapon. The Template:UNSCship carries a complement of Broadswords, likely totaling several dozen. Ivanoff Station also posseses at least one, indicating they are commonplace on UNSC instatllations for defense. The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Aviator helmet is recommended for use by Broadsword crew members.[2][3]
History
Broadswords were seen flying over the UNSC Infinity's commisioning ceremony. Ivanoff Station apparently carried some of these, presumably for protection in case of an attack. After The Didact uses The Composer to digitize everyone in the station, the Master Chief takes one, arming it with a nuclear missile to destroy the Didact's ship and save the Earth. The Broadsword catches up with him just before he enters Slipspace and needing to follow and stop him, the Master Chief flies the fighter into the trenches of the ship to piggy-back a ride to Earth. After fighting through the trenches and making it to Earth, the Master Chief takes out Mantle's Approach's point-defense guns so the Infinity can punch a hole in the ship so the Broadsword can enter. The hole is blown and the fighter enters the ship, but as the walls close in on it, crashes, forcing the Master Chief to take the nuke on foot to the Composer.
Specifications
Like the Sabre, the Broadsword has energy shielding that covers the entire fighter and recharges when depleted. However, these shields are not capable of being used for Slipspace travel so the only way the Broadsword can travel in Slipspace is to ride along with a Slipspace-capable ship. The Broadsword posseses machine guns and missile pods and can carry payloads of nuclear weapons.
