Bottom player: the bottom player does all the hard work. he must push the "A", "B" and "X" buttons together as fast as possible.

* instead of using "X" in the button combo it is possible to use "Y" as a substitute. This is safer because it decreases the risk of an assassination  of the top player.
*Using overshields can also prolong the survival of the top player.

*Turning auto look centering off possibly helps
*Be sure to keep looking at the top player
*Using right trigger will do the same as "B" but is more difficult

Butterflying is a glitch that occurs in Halo 2 and Halo 3. The glitch allows two players to, through cooperation, fly through the air. In Halo 3, one person has to jump on the other's head repeatedly, while the other person keeps on pressing RB and B repeatedly in a sparse repetition; the button combination "cancels" a reload and a beat down to a lock on sequence, allowing you to fly. In Halo 2, you press B and X repeatedly with any weapon (Energy Sword is recommended), to achieve the same result.

How to: Halo 2

To butterfly in Halo 2 you must first have an energy sword and a right angle corner. The multiplayer map Headlong is advised because it has many such corners. To do it have 2 players. The beginner player jumps on the experts head (because the beginner wont have to do as much work) until he is solidly in place. You will know you have it right when the lower player is able to run around without the upper falling off. To do this you must first be hard into the corner. Now for short climbs it's no problem but if you are planning on climbing a tall building you might have to keep pushing the thumbstick forward with a ruler pushed against the stick other wise the lower player may slip out resulting in failure. The button combo is:

Top player: simply push the "A" button as fast as possible.

Bottom player: the bottom player does all the hard work. he must push the "A", "B" and "X" buttons together as fast as possible.

Handy tips:

  • instead of using "X" in the button combo it is possible to use "Y" as a substitute. This is safer because it decreases the risk of an assassination  of the top player.
  • Using overshields can also prolong the survival of the top player.
  • Making the players turn opposite directions stops an assassination
  • Turning auto look centering off possibly helps
  • Be sure to keep looking at the top player
  • Using right trigger will do the same as "B" but is more difficult

WARNING: Be sure to rest between butterflying tall buildings. The repetiveness of this trick may cause carpel tunnel syndrome.
