Project GUNGNIR was a top-secret UNSC program under the supervision of the Office of Naval Intelligence.[1] Rear Admiral Michael Stanforth had some degree of involvement with the project.

The project is known to have produced many supplementary armor systems, including the GUNGNIR knee guards, helmet, and pauldrons for the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor. Some of these armor components, including the shoulders and knee guards, are also utilized by the UNSC Army and the UNSC Marine Corps.[2] The program also oversaw the development of the W/AV M6 Grindell/Galilean Nonlinear Rifle, more commonly known as the SPARTAN Laser.[3]
