Small radio sets are used by the UNSC for communications between allied forces. Their small size and light weight means that they are easily portable, and are often used in the field during combat operations.

In Halo: Reach, if left long enough, the radio sets tune in to radio stations and the player can hear garbled transmissions, as well as the Truth and Reconciliation track from Halo: Combat Evolved.
