It is speculated that Jake Courage is a participant of ONI's intentional distortion of what actually happened, as the [[Second Battle of New Mombasa]] never took place in the canon Halo universe, in order to prevent knowledge of the [[Forerunner]]s, the [[Installation|Halos]], and the [[Ark]] from being gained by civilians. This would fit with the fact that there has been no description of such a battle in any other location, and the description of the events given in ''Halo 3'' marketing contradicts with established facts.
