The Ravager was manufactured by the [[Forge of Torograd]] and developed by the Veporokk workshop.{{Ref/Reuse|EN}} The Ravager has a profile and design similar to the [[Paegaas Workshop Spiker]]. Unlike the Spiker, the Ravager is a [[directed-energy weapon]], firing red [[plasma]] incendiary bolts at targets. Once fired, the plasma incendiary rounds travel in a shallow arc,{{Ref/Reuse|SOR19}} though can be affected by the presence of [[anti-gravity technology]]. When impacting a surface, the incendiary splashes the plasma around the point of impact.{{Ref/Novel|Id=SOR20|HSoR|Chapter=20}} They are also capable of melting through the [[Titanium-A armor]] of [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor (GEN3)|MJOLNIR GEN3]].{{Ref/Reuse|SOR20}} While the Ravager's standard firing mode is a semi-automatic three-round burst, it can be charged to fire a stronger bolt laced with [[infusion gel]], which leaves behind a burning area of effect.{{Ref/Reuse|EN}}{{Ref/Reuse|HINF}}

The Ravager fires plasma in three round bursts, and its plasma arcs after it is fired from the weapon. If the player continuously fires the weapon without waiting, the Ravager will eventually need to be vented so it can be used again. It also has an alt-fire mode that deals damage in an area, but at the expense of overheating the weapon entirely, similar to the [[Type-54 plasma pistol|Plasma Pistol]].{{Ref/Reuse|HINF}} In the campaign, the Ravager is wielded by [[Jiralhanae Officer]]s, [[Sangheili Enforcer]]s, and [[Sangheili Warlord]]s.

According to [[:Category:Images by Sam Brown|Sam Brown]], the concept artist who designed the weapon, the Ravager was originally intended to be a [[Forerunner]] weapon. The filename for the initial Forerunner concept art suggests that it might have been called the "Slagmaker."
