User:Nicbot/Approval

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Hello everyone,

I would like to request a bot flag for Nicbot so it may perform repetitive tasks without clogging up recent changes. The bot will run using AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) when approved for use. A community consensus must be reached before the flag can be given.

So, what is my definition of "repetitive tasks"? AutoWikiBrowser has a number of capabilities for any account (human or bot), but what I primarily have in mind at the moment is the "mass" removal, addition and replacement of categories and files. What I mean by this is that the bot will execute the task of handling categories/files on a large number of articles in a short period of time. Examples include removal of broken categories on several pages, or a largely used category that may be deleted (which would be tedious to do manually). Though just a secondary concern at this moment in time, I'm also planning to set the bot to make fixes to common typos and removal of duplicate article links (as per HP:MOS), both mainly an aid for larger articles (which are more prone to typing errors). Please see AWB/T for details on that function.

The bot is semi-automatic; what this means is that any actions it takes are initiated by myself. In other words, I have to confirm an action it takes before doing it.

Regards,

  12. Support.svg Support - A Bot comes in extremely handy for many tasks, and seeming our two only other bots have ran inactive, I approve of this. Just Administrators, make sure there is an emergency Bot shut off switch in case of anything that goes wrong. Tader 7 04:42, June 15, 2010 (UTC)
